Chelsea are looking to offer Brazilian midfielder Ramires a new contract, and the club are in advanced talks with the player over a new deal.

Ramires has two years left on his current contract but Chelsea are looking to keep him at the club till 2019.

The Brazilian joined Chelsea in 2010 from Benfica and has made over 200 appearances for the club, where he won the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup during his five years stay at the club.

The 28-year-old lost his regular starting place in the side last season, as Jose Mourinho prefered the pairing of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in centre. However, he has started in the last two games against Porto & Southampton and produced a brilliant cameo performance after coming off the bench at Newcastle.

Ramires was linked with a move away from Chelsea in the summer, with Italian Juventus registering an interest in him. However, he remains a key player in Mourinho’s side and Chelsea are keen to secure his future as soon as possible.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has lend his full support to manager Jose Mourinho, saying it was important for the club to back the under-fire manager completely.

“[The statement] is important,” he said. “I think everybody knows the situation we’re in at the moment.

“It has been a very, very difficult start. The Southampton game, for me personally, was a real low and I’ve come away here totally determined to make that right when I come back.

“Dare I say, he doesn’t even need backing. When you’ve done so much in the game, got the CV and been through everything that he has been, not just in this league or what he has done for Chelsea but in other leagues.

“I don’t even think he needs backing, but obviously it is nice to have that and he has certainly got that from the players and the club.

Meanwhile, Diego Costa, the Chelsea striker feels that the players must take the responsibility to take Chelsea out of this present mess.
