Chelsea have joined the race alongside Arsenal and Manchester United to sign Atletico Madrid’s goal machine Diego Costa.
Earlier this week, The Mail reported that Premier League leaders Arsenal are showing keen interest in landing Costa. The striker has scored 22 goals in 21 games this season, including 17 goals in 16 games in La Liga and signed a new deal with Madrid in August until 2018.
The Gunners are currently short on strike options, with onus of responsibility falling on the shoulders of Olivier Giroud. Arsene Wenger therefore is keen to land a potential class striker to not only ease off the pressure from the Frenchman’s shoulder but will add an extra dimension to attacking unit as well.
Yesterday, we reported that Manchester United are also taking a keen interest in him, which to a large surprised us a bit. The Red Devils have an avalanche of forwards at their disposal and if any position David Moyes needs bolstering is the midfield area.
Now, according to Italian media, Chelsea have also entered the race to sign the 25-year-old, who has a £32m release clause on his contract. It is unlikely that Atletico will sell their prized asset in the January transfer window, so, Mourinho is prepared to take him next summer and youngster Romelu Lukaku could be offered as a cash plus player part exchange.
