According to reports in Italy, Serie A giants Roma have targeted Porto striker Jackson Martinez, who is a reported target of Premier League duo Chelsea and Arsenal.
The 27-year-old striker is enjoying a good campaign with Porto, where he netted 18 league goals so far.
Back in December Martinez admitted that he supported London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea, when he was a kid.
“Where would I like to play?” Martinez told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “When I was a child I rooted for Chelsea and Arsenal.
“I think the best championships are La Liga, the Premier League andBundesliga, which has grown much in recent years. But I also really like Serie Aand have many friends in Italy.”
The striker has a reported buy-out clause of £34m and has a contract till 2016. Chelsea and Arsenal both are in need of a class striker, but it remains unsure about the genuine interest from these clubs.
Chelsea especially have set their sights on Atletico Mardrid striker Diego Costa while Arsenal have other targets as well like Mario Mandzukic.
According to Leggo, Serie A giants Roma have inquired about his availability while Tuttomercato suggesting that Martinez has personally tried to persuade Porto to lower their demands, so that he can complete the move in the summer.
Martinez’s agent Manuel Manso is aware of the growing interest from top European clubs for the striker, but wants to wait until the end of the season to make any decision over the player’s future.
The Giallorossi have had a great campaign this season and are lying second in the league table behind Juventus. With European football guaranteed for next season, Roma can look forward to do some marquee signings.
