Champions League, the greatest club show in European football, is back. And to start a silly campaign, let’s do something silly as well. How about doing some predictions? We asked Soccerlens writers to give their verdict on “winner” & “top scorer” of the Champions League. Without further adieu, let’s see what they have to say:
Abhijit
Winner: Bayern Munich
Top Scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo
Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich are my best bet to win the Champions League this season. Purely because I can’t see any other team apart from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern to go the distance. Bayern have an advantage because of the fact they have consistency all around; Barca won’t defend their title because historical records don’t say so while Real Madrid are in transition. Top scorer would be Ronaldo solely because he is the only player at the top who scores in bulk. With Malmo in their group, Ronaldo could easily notch 5-6 goals in the group phase itself.

Winner: Barcelona
Top Scorer: Lionel Messi
For the first time since the European Cup became the Champions League in 1992, I think we’re going to see the trophy defended. The front three are virtually unplayable, meaning Barcelona cannot be stopped. They showed this in beating Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Juventus last season. Little has changed. Lionel Messi to pip Luis Suárez in being the top scorer.

Winner: Real Madrid
Top Scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo
Barcelona are the reigning Champions League winners and they will kick-start their defence with a clash against AS Roma. The treble winners are backed to win it for the second year in a row, however, I believe they will not win this season.
I am backing Real Madrid to win the Champions League for the record 11th time. It is possible if Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale start banging goals. The former Manchester United star will be the top scorer this time.
PS: I am not a supporter of either of the clubs

Winner: Barcelona
Top Scorer: Lionel Messi
Yet another Champions League season is upon us and it promises to be an absolute belter. With five Spanish sides in the mix, I expect the trophy to go to remain in the sunny country. Bayern Munich are also one of the pre-tournament favourites while it doesn’t look good for the Italian outfits. The lesser said about the English sides the better but I do believe Manchester City could go deep in the competition. Valencia too can surprise everyone but I believe an El Clasico final could just be the icing on the cake. As for grabbing the most goal, I don’t see anyone challenging Lionel Messi for the record.

Winner: Barcelona
Top Scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo
This could finally be the year we see the coveted big-ears trophy defended successfully. The usual contenders have all looked unconvincing in their domestic seasons so far. Chelsea are in tatter, Juventus have lost some of their most important players from last season, and Bayern Munich have seemed lukewarm. With Real Madrid and Barca dominating this competition in the last few seasons, it’s incredible we haven’t seen an El Clasico final yet. This could be the year when that finally changes. Barcelona to lift the trophy again, and Cristiano Rinaldo to finish as the top goalscorer.

Winner: Real Madrid
Top Scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo
The main problem for Barcelona their alarming lack of depth (transfer ban played a huge part) in the squad. You cannot simply rely on MSN trio without having enough world class players in the supporting ranks. That’s where Real Madrid hold an advantage, and adding to it Rafa Benitez’s uncanny knack of winning cup trophies make Los Blancos favourite to win the UCL this time.
