Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas could return back to the Premier League this summer. While we’re swamped with plethora of contradictory reports about him, what we do know is the Spaniard is all set to leave Barcelona with Chelsea could be his likely destination.
If the reports are to be believed, the Spaniard has already agreed a personal deal with Chelsea. Upon knowing that he is not valued at Barcelona, the Spain international wanted to return back to the club that helped him grow as a world class footballer. While Fabregas is still revered as one of Arsenal heroes, the current Gunners’ squad is choc-a-bloc with attacking midfielders, as a result of which they refused to exercise his buy-back options, leaving Chelsea the only possible destination to ply his trade, after a slightly disappointing campaign with the Blaugrana.
Assuming that Chelsea will sign him up, in the next few days/weeks or before the transfer deadline day, we take a look five main reasons why he would be a very good signing for the West Londoners.
Marquee signing
Midfield is one of the areas where Chelsea had to invest this summer. With Frank Lampard leaving the club, Ramires and John Obi Mikel (uncertain future) hardly impressed last season and young Van Ginkel still not settled, Chelsea need to sign someone like Fabregas – top class, experienced and yet hungry to prove a point.
World class midfielder
Fabregas is a world class midfielder, who can easily walk into any team. Whether he is the type of player Mourinho wants, whether he will fit into Mourinho’s system are questions for another day – but no one in this world can doubt the sheer talent and quality he possesses.
Replacement of Frank Lampard
It bears all the more significance, considering the fact that a world class player is going to replace a club legend. And that is not an easy task to do. Though he may not be a like-for-like replacement of Lampard, but dearth of quality in the middle of the park, that became a regular syndrome last season, will be eradicated.
Leadership qualities
Fabregas showed great qualities as a player at an early young age. The maturity he showed then was beyond his years and Arsene Wenger had no hesitations in making him the skipper of his Arsenal side. His leadership qualities (loves to lead by examples) would come handy especially now that John Terry is reaching the apogee of his career.
Wealth of experience
He brings with him a vast wealth of experience. He has earned success with Barcelona, has been a regular member for the Spain national team and has represented his clubs and country and performed well at the highest levels.
Also, there aren’t many world class midfielders around with tons of Premier League experience like him, so overall, the signing makes enough sense.
What do you think? Will Fabregas be a top signing for Chelsea?
