Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has finally spoken out about the ongoing speculation of a move to Manchester United this summer.

The 26-year old revealed he has no desire to leave his boyhood club, and has been given no indication from the management that he’s considered surplus to requirements.

Last season, he made 32 La Liga appearances, scoring 11 goals and making a reported 14 assists. However, he found himself subbed in half the games he’d played in and also admitted he was suffering from bouts of inconsistency.

Premier League champions Manchester United made two failed bids in recent weeks for the Spaniard – £25M and £30M. With Barcleona previously overstocked on central midfielders, the Red Devils had originally sought after Thiago Alcantara. However, he opted to reunite with his former manager in joining Bayern Munich.

This left Fabregas as a potential target, but Barcelona have always maintained they had no plans to let him go unless Fabregas made a formal request to leave.

He made no word on the news in the last few weeks, but has now broken his silence on the matter – reaffirming his desire to stay with the La Liga champions.

‘I am very happy at Barcelona and I haven’t spoken to any other club in the last two years. I’ve been relaxed about (the rumours) the whole time. I didn’t have to clarify anything because the only thing I was thinking about was staying at Barca.’

Manchester United David Moyes was recently resigned to losing out on the Spanish international after the two failed approaches, and will now turn his attention to other midfielders – Everton’s Marouane Fellaini said to be attracting interest from the Lancashire outfit.

Barcelona can now move on from the rumours and continue their preparation to retain the La Liga title, and to also win back the Champions League crown after going back-to-back seasons of falling short.
