Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has come under a lot of criticism recently, mainly from the Dutch press.
The highly rated young winger made a promising start to life at Old Trafford, since joining United for a reported fee of £31.6m from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, however, his form has deteriorated in recent weeks and has been axed from the first team by Louis van Gaal.
Depay has been heavily criticised for his attitude problems, with Holland coach, Danny Blind, made a blunt assessment of his contribution for the national team recently.
“In football you must function in a team,” the Holland coach said as quoted by The Times.
“He doesn’t always do that. That’s something he has to learn.” At Manchester United, plenty of people would have been nodding in agreement.”
Depay says that he is working hard to rediscover his best form and has admitted that he has put on five kilograms since joining Manchester United.
He said: “When I first stood on the scales I thought, ‘OK, is this correct?’ My body is still developing. Now I’m a little more heavy, so I have to work on that.”
The 21-year-old has also employed a cook at home to ensure he maintains a healthy diet.
Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to manage Chelsea once again, but insists the Blues won’t sack their current manager Jose Mourinho.
Ancelotti, who left Chelsea in 2011, after guiding the club to the double the previous season, says he holds no grudges over the manner of his own dismissal.
“I would have no problem with Chelsea,” he told the Daily Mail when asked if he would return to Stamford Bridge. “But José won’t be sacked. They already choose to keep him, and I think they made a good choice.”
Ancelotti also revealed that he didn’t speak to Liverpool over the Reds’ recent managerial appointment. The Italian says that the Reds have made the right appointment in Jurgen Klopp and believes Liverpool can be really competitive under him.
“They made the right appointment in Klopp. He is a good manager,” Ancelotti told the Daily Mail.
“With the best managers you see their identity in their team. Klopp’s Dortmund team had a very strong identity.”
“’I think Liverpool are a good team. They have some really good young players — Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke.
“If they can find an experienced player like Gerrard or Carragher — an example to the squad — I think they can be really competitive.”
Chelsea have backed their under-fire manager Jose Mourinho to turn things around after a poor start to the season, however, Roman Abramovich could still turn to Carlo Ancelotti, if the results do not improve within the next month.
