Mesut Ozil has made a huge difference to the Arsenal side, since the moment he stepped into the North London club on the transfer deadline day from Real Madrid for a club record transfer fee. His sheer presence has lifted the atmosphere completely at the Emirates while the German took no time to show his genius qualities on the pitch.
With one goal and 4 assist in 8 appearances so far, Ozil has settled in quickly at his new home. He has been ushered with heaps of praise by the English media while his manager Arsene Wenger even compared him with the club legend Dennis Bergkamp.
Bergkamp, the Dutch legend who is eyeing for a return to the Emirates as a coach, has praised Ozil highly saying the German can make a huge difference. He said in an Exclusive interview with The Telegraph:
“It is still early days. He is a tremendous player with a lot of effective skills like controlling the ball, making creative passes and assists, taking the right position in the field every time. And he’s extremely experienced.
“Putting all that together I think you’ve got a player who can be the missing link in the Arsenal team, a player who will make a striker score goals, who will link up in Arsenal’s position-game and who will score goals as well.”
Although Aaron Ramsey ran away with the Premier League player of the month (deservedly) award but no one can deny that Ozil is the central creative force behind Arsenal’s dramatic revival. Bergkamp added:
“Ozil knows exactly how to control the ball in what kind of space to give himself time. That’s the difference between the players and great players. With his intelligence and his touch and his skills, he is trying to do something right with every ball.”
“With all the respect to the other Arsenal players, I think he is the one who can make a difference. The other players are good in midfield. But you need someone of a high-level you can be good in all areas of the pitch.”
Certainly, Ozil is head and shoulder above the rest. Arsenal already have few very good players, some may turn out into world class stars in future, but the thing is – Ozil is already a world class superstar and that’s why the gulf in quality is clearly evident. The Gunners are buzzing with confidence at the moment, sharing the top spot in the league along with Liverpool and if Ozil continues to dazzle like this, come May he will prove to be the only deciding factor between top four challenge and title race.
