Barcelona v Real Zaragoza
Camp Nou, La Liga
Sunday 25 October 2009
Kickoff: 21:00 CET
Barcelona Preview
Barcelona suffered a shocking 2-1 home loss to to Rubin Kazan in the Champions League midweek and before that barely scraped through with a draw away to Valencia. Although Valencia had pushed Barcelona on the back foot, Kazan’s win was based on an impenetrable defensive setup and a devastating counter-attacking system.
Barcelona will be missing Daniel Alves through injury for up to three weeks but there’s enough depth and quality in the squad to bounce back from the results of the last week or so and return to their winning ways.
Reports of Barcelona’s demise are wide from the mark – and if form and ability are any indicators, Barcelona will be making an emphatic statement on Sunday night as they end the week as La Liga leaders, having soundly beating Zaragoza.
Real Zaragoza Preview
Real Zaragoza are in their second season back from Segunda Division and while they’ve seen mixed results, the club is showing mid-table form and is in far better shape than some of their rivals.
Roberto Ayala will be central to Zaragoza’s efforts to get something out of the game at Camp Nou on Sunday – the Argentine center back has already netted four goals for Zaragoza and has been their ever-present defensive rock. But even Ayala will need to step up his usual heroics and everyone in the team, young and old, will need to play a strong and disciplined game.
Barcelona v Real Zaragoza Prediction
A crisis would be Atletico Madrid’s disasterous start to the season – in comparison, Barcelona and Real Madrid are just taking a breather before they sprint to another half a dozen back to back victories.
Don’t expect anything less than a Barcelona victory with a two-goal margin.
Prediction: Barcelona 4-0 Real Zaragoza
