Chelsea have made a dramatic late bid to convince the Barcelona forward Pedro, to snub Manchester United in favour of the Premier League Champions.
Pedro seemed certain to complete his move to Manchester United this week after Ed Woodward travelled to Barcelona for crunch talks.
However it seems that Mourinho has convinced Abramovich that the Blues are in need of reinforcements and have held talks with Barcelona for the Spaniard.
It is believed that United were leading the race for the wide forward, but the Old Trafford outfit were reluctant to meet Barcelona’s asking price and were looking to negotiate.
Chelsea have now swooped in willing to meet Barcelona’s demands and are now hoping to wrap up the deal soon.
Chelsea were close to signing Pedro at the start of the year, but Mourinho decided to sign Cuadrado instead. The Colombian has been a massive flop at Stamford Bridge and is already looking to return to Italy.
Earlier this month reports claimed that Pedro was unhappy with how Van Gaal was treating United’s Spaniards. Given the kind of relationship Mourinho enjoys with his players, it could certainly be an added advantage for Chelsea in their pursuit of the World cup winner.
Furthermore, Pedro’s former teammate Cesc Fabregas could also play a key role in convincing the Spaniard to snub Manchester United.
Elsewhere, Van Gaal will have little hope of Victor Valdes doing the same for him.
