While Liverpool have certainly won many neutrals over this season with their stunning brand of attacking football, one Atletico Madrid star has been a long-serving fan of the club from afar, and if Brendan Rodgers decides to go for it, Arda Turan could well be on his way to Merseyside this summer.
Turkish international Turan has been linked with a move to the Premier League for many years, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly in the hunt for him this summer. But Liverpool seem to be firmly in the driving seat, with the 27-year-old reiterating his fondness for the Reds, and that he has a particular admiration for captain Steven Gerrard,
Speaking to Four-Four-Two, Turan said,“I’ve always played for teams in red [Galatasaray, Manisaspor, Turkey] and I’ve always admired Steven Gerrard. So yes, I have a soft spot for Liverpool, especially given their history and the atmosphere at Anfield.”
Atletico Madrid progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League last night at the expense of rivals Barcelona, and although Turan missed the game through injury, he has been an ever-present on the starting XI this season.
Under Diego Simeone at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, Altetico have become a force to be reckoned with on the European stage, and with the club also currently top of La Liga, Liverpool may have a hard time persuading the attacker to ditch high flying Atleti, despite the Turk’s ‘soft spot’ for the club.
What do you think? Should Liverpool go for Turan? Let me know in the comments below…
