Olivier GiroudArsenal are optimistic their star striker Olivier Giroud will sign a new two-year deal at the Emirates.

The France international has two years left on his contract at the North London club and has not signed a new deal. According to The Telegraph, the Gunners have already held talks with the striker over a contract extension before going to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The North London club’s manager Arsene Wenger remains confident that his compatriot will sign a new deal to extend his stay at Arsenal. Giroud was involved in an incident last season, where he was involved in an incident in calling a model to his hotel room.

However, Wenger still has faith on Giroud and is now hoping that the French World Cup striker could put pen on paper in signing a new deal. Arsenal allowed Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu Young leave the club after their contract expired. This leaves Wenger with Giroud as the only out-and-out striker in the squad.

Arsenal have signed Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and the Gunners boss is planning to field both the Chilean international and Giroud in the starting lineup. Thus, it will rule out any possibility of selecting either one of the two attackers during the team selection.

Earlier in April, Giroud had also expressed his desire to sign a new deal after admitting that he will be at Arsenal next season.

“Why not? [When asked if he would sign a new contract]. I have a contract until 2016 and I’m an Arsenal player. I want to be here next season, at least that’s my will,” Giroud told The Mirror.

The news could come as a welcome boost to Arsenal faithful, especially after Wenger has already sealed crucial deals in the transfer window. Also, the Gunners have managed to hold on to their star players as there has been no high-profile exit from the Emirates so far in this summer transfer window.
