Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is set to chose last season’s Italian Serie A runners-up AS Roma over a move to the Premier League.
Arsenal had been chasing the highly-rated teenage midfielder this summer and reports yesterday suggested he may be on for a move to the Emirates Stadium for €12-15 million by the end of Monday’s transfer deadline.
However, French newspaper Le Parisien is reporting this morning that Rabiot will choose the Italian capital over England.
Roma themselves have a French manager themselves in Rudi García who successfully guided them to second place last seasons with the second best defence in the league. Some consider them able to overturn Juventus this summer and win Serie A for the first time since 2000-01 after Juventus hired the unpopular Massimiliano Allegri as their manager following the departure of Antonio Conte.
The French newspaper claims that the player feels wanted by Rudi García who is not hesitant in giving youth players an opportunity.
This would come as a blow Arsène Wenger who has an endless list of youngsters he has brought through during his 18 years at Arsenal as well as numerous French players.
Le Parisien reports that Roma have agreed a €15 million (£12m) move for the 19-year old French under-21 international. He will face stiff competition from Daniele De Rossi, Miralem Pjanić, Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan for a regular place in the first team.
On Thursday, Roma were drawn in a group with Bayern Munich, Manchester City and CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League.
Adrien Rabiot has only one year left on his contract at the Parc des Princes and has rejected a new offer already this summer. It has been reported in recent days that Rabiot has not looked himself and lacked effort in training.
PSG fans took to Twitter this week to send abuse to their player who looks set to leave the French capital within three days.
