With the January transfer window just around the corner, a lot of talk in the media has been about Arsenal and their need to strengthen their squad with an additional striker.
Olivier Giroud has been over-relied on, with little-to-no faith in the abilities of Nicklas Bendtner as a deputy.
As such a new striker signing or loan move in the new year seems likely for the north London outfit.
One name that is repeatedly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Alvaro Morata, who is finding first-team football hard to come by at Real Madrid.
With the Spain under-21 star the back-up to Karim Benzema, there has been contrasting rumours over recent months suggesting Morata’s different levels of importance at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Back in October there were rumblings that the Madrid faithful were getting frustrated by Benzema’s attitude and lack of goals, with many suggesting that Morata should get the nod in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
However, over the last six weeks the France international has solidified his place in the team with improved showings – and more importantly six goals in nine games.
As such Morata has remained on the fringes – the 21-year-old has still only started one game in La Liga this term.
Morata was given his chance to impress Ancelotti and the Madrid faithful on Wednesday night in the Copa del Rey, starting ahead of Benzema in the 2-0 win over Olimpic de Xativa. However the youngster failed to convince the home faithful, did not get on the scoresheet and as a result it is believed that Benzema will regain his place in the starting lineup for the weekend clash against Valencia.
A report by Marca claims that Morata is willing to bide his time to get regular first-team football, but has seen his chances shrink over the last two months and as such is losing patience.
As a result, the 21-year-old may well be available for loan come January, with Arsenal sure to be weighing up a temporary deal for the young star.
Morata certainly looks like an ideal signing for the Gunners. He is a young talented player that has all the physical attributes to excel in England and an excellent record of scoring when given the opportunity.
Most importantly, Morata’s addition would be cost-effective, and would not stunt the momentum or confidence of an in-form Giroud.
The Frenchman could continue to lead the line for Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger would have a more reliable and technically superior substitute to call on when needed.
For Madrid, their homegrown attacker would get exposure to a different league, more first-team football than he is getting at the moment and can return to the Spanish capital ahead of next term.
