Arsenal target Jackson Martinez has signed a contract extension with Porto till 2017, Portuguese newspaper A Bola has confirmed. The Colombian striker had a contract with the club till 2016 but agreed to sign an extension till 2017. The player will now have a transfer release clause of €35m.
Official statement from Porto: “The Futebol Clube do Porto – Futebol, SAD, pursuant to article 248 number 1 of the Securities Code, hereby informs the market that lasted for another year, until June 30, 2017, the contractual agreement linking this company to your player Jackson Martínez Valencia. Please note that the amount of the termination clause is € 35 million (Thirty five million Euros). “
Arsenal’s need for a striker is well documented and the Gunners have been linked with Martinez in the summer transfer window. This would come as a major blow for the Gunners as manager Arsene Wenger will now have to look elsewhere for a striker who can take lead the line up front. Wenger is desperate to sign a striker who can take the pressure of Olivier Giroud up front.
