Arsenal will never win the Champions League under Arsene Wenger

Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening group game of this season’s Champions League.

The home side stunned Arsenal with their efficient football and scored early.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s own goal gave the home side an important lead in the first half. Despite their chances and creativity, the Gunners struggled to level the score and were pegged back in the second half.

Arsenal’s evening went from bad to worse as their only striker, Olivier Giroud picked up a red card after missing an easy chance to score the equaliser.

Zagreb doubled their lead at the hour mark thanks to a well taken goal from Junior Fernandes.

Although Theo Walcott reduced the deficit with a goal in the second half, Zagreb did enough to hold on to their one goal advantage and pick up a well deserved three points.

Here are three reasons, why i think Arsenal will never win the Champions League under Arsene Wenger.

Careless transfers

Put it any way you want, but Arsene Wenger just doesn’t take transfer windows seriously.

Arsenal are desperate for a midfielder and a striker and the manager failed to address those situations during the summer. Having sealed the Cech transfer early, Wenger had plenty of cash and time to address his side’s weaknesses.

Wenger claimed that he chose to save the cash because of the lack of players. Are you really trying to say that he could not find an upgrade on Arteta and Giroud with 200 million in the bank?

Just not ruthless enough

Same old Arsenal. Players fail to turn up in Europe, but Wenger’s faith in them remains intact.

The Arsenal manager is jut not ruthless enough. Some of his players need replacing and he chooses to ignore their complacency year after year.

By the way, Jose Mourinho dropped Nemanja Matic, his star from last season and secured a much needed win today.

Team talks or Tactics? 

Team talks are in important part of football and Arsenal don’t seem to get that.

Every time Arsenal are under pressure or a goal down in the first half, instead of coming out of the blocks flying in the second half, they tend to continue with their patient football.

Is it the lack of motivation? or Wenger’s reluctance to mix it up?

Champions League implosion against weaker sides is nothing new for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal. It is always the same reasons holding the North Londoners back in Europe and this season won’t be any different.
