Liverpool are showing interest in Arsenal forward Joel Campbell and could make a move for the Costa Rica international during the January transfer window.

Arsenal are looking to offload Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell in the January transfer window, as the Gunners looking to re-invest the money in signing one or two quality defenders.

The Times journalist Matt Hughes wrote yesterday that Wenger, who earlier insisted that he wants Campbell to stay, feels that he has plenty of forwards at disposal and therefore needs to make the necessary cull.

Both Campbell and Podolski have dropped down the pecking orders at the club and therefore a move in January is highly likely. Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud are all capable of playing the forward role, while Wenger believes it is the central defence and central midfield that needs immediate surgery.

Campbell, who has managed only 35 mins of Premier League action this season despite impressing in the World Cup, has been linked with a move to several Italian clubs including Inter Milan and AC Milan, but the Serie A clubs are only interested in loan moves, which Arsenal are unwilling to accept.

This could open the opportunity for Liverpool, who as reported by Spanish website Fichajes, are looking to sign the Costa Rican in January.

The Reds have struggled to replicate the goal scoring form of last season, with new signing Mario Balotelli failing to net a single goal in the Premier League so far.

With Daniel Sturridge injured and won’t return until Next year, Liverpool have had to rely on 32-year-old Rickie Lambert. Although the former Southampton striker has done well in recent matches, scoring two goals, it feels like he has been over-used by Rodgers, having played four matches on the trot.

Fabio Borini, another Liverpool striker, hasn’t played enough for the Reds and it seems like his future lies away from Anfield. The Italian striker wasn’t even considered on the bench in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Tuesday, which only suggest Rodgers has very little faith in him.

Campbell is a versatile young forward, who can play in the wings as well. He possesses good technical skills and has fair bit of pace to outrun the full-backs. The report says Liverpool are keen to sign on a loan deal with a view to make it permanent, but will Arsenal sell any of their players to a direct rival?

In other news, Arsenal are closing in on €42m rated forward, Palermo’s new jewel Paulo Dybala, according to reports from British tabloids.

Whether or not the report is true, is subject to debate, but Palermo’s club president, who has compared the player with the likes of Lionel Messi, feels no Italian club can afford to sign him. However, he accepts that they cannot hold on their precious jewel much long.

Dybala scored 17 goals in his first season at the club, where he got couple of hat-tricks and scored in six consecutive appearances. Reputed Serie A expert James Horncastle writes:

Known as ‘El Pibe del la Pensión’ after boarding with Instituto following the death of his father Adolfo, the kid looked like a phenomenon in the making. But his exploits had also come to the attention of Inter, Napoli and of course Porto.

The big question remains – Is he really worth €42m?
