Colombian striker Jackson Martinez has been on the wishlist of several top Premier League clubs over the last 18 months. Chelsea were long said to be interested in bringing the Porto forward to Stamford Bridge, but missed out on him last year.

News today though, from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, has stated that Serie A club Roma are set to make a move for Martinez. According to the report, representatives from the Italian giants have already contacted the player’s representatives are looking to strike a deal. Martinez is valued at around €35 million.
The striker was overshadowed by James Rodriguez at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but scored two goals as Colombia reached the last 8.
Arsenal are looking for a striker who can contribute 20-25 goals a season as they look to challenge for the league title again. This season, they are already out of the race, being 13 points behind leaders Chelsea at the halfway mark. Danny Welbeck hasn’t scored as many as expected, while Olivier Giroud has been out injured for most parts.
With 78 goals in 113 appearances for Porto, there is no doubt that Martinez has been one of the best and most consistent goalscorers in all of Europe in the last few years.
