According to a report in Daily Telegraph, Totthenham fear that their cross city rivals Arsenal will beat them to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin in the upcoming January transfer window.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was keen to reunite with the French midfielder in the summer but Southampton had turned down a £10m offer for the player. Tottenham are no worried that Arsenal could beat them for Schneiderlin in the winter transfer market. The Saints have already made it clear that the 25 year old is not for sale in January but the report claims that Schneiderlin is keen on a move away from St Mary’s.
Tottenham are desperate to sign a central defensive midfielder in january with Nabil Bentaleb set to miss out for a month due to his African Cup of Nations commitment with Algeria. The White Hart Lane outfit fear that Arsenal’s successful dealings with Southampton could see Schneiderlin switch loyalties for the Emirates side.
The Gunners too need a central defensive midfielder who can screen the back four and help break down the opposition attacks and build from the deep. Schneidrlin would be the perfect player to suit the bill for Arsenal but it remains to be seen if Southampton do let their prized asset move in January.
