Arsenal targeted Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in the summer but the deal didn’t materialize then. However, as per latest reports, from The Standard, the Gunners could land the Frenchman in the January transfer window, after Madrid have told them they can sign Benzema in the winter for a cut price deal.
It is understood that Real Madrid would be prepared to sell him at £20m only – the price has slashed nearly half to what it was in the summer.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti has become frustrated with Benzema as the 25-year-old has just netted two goals in eight games for his club. Although Real Madrid have signed Gareth Bale for a world record transfer fee, but President Florentino Perez is aware that the squad needs further strengthening.
The Los Blancos are targeting Liverpool’s talisman striker Luis Suarez and are hoping to recoup some of the money by selling Benzema in January to fund his move. The frustration with the French striker has reached such a point that Madrid are prepared to cut his losses on the former Lyon star who cost £30m in 2009.
Although Luis Suarez has returned strongly in the league following his 10-match ban, but trepidation lingers at Anfield that the Reds might be helpless in preventing him from leaving, should Real Madrid make a formal approach for the Uruguayan.
Madrid have also targeted Sergio Aguero of Manchester City but it is highly unlikely that the Argentine superstar will be joining them any time soon.
Arsene Wenger is not only a keen admirer of Benzema but Arsenal also equally need a quality striker. Although Olivier Giroud is doing well for the Gunners but Wenger would be looking to bolster his attacking department as much as he can.
