Borussia Dortmund have reiterated their stance on star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer situation that the Gabon international won’t be sold even if a club were to offer €100m. With just a week remaining in the January transfer window, a move for the Bundesliga top scorer this late is almost inconceivable.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told German publication Bild the striker is not for sale even if ridiculous money is splashed by interested clubs. “Even if a high offer would come in now, it would not matter. We will not sell Auba,” said Watzke on Aubameyang’s future.
Premier League pace-setters Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the reigning African Player of the Year but the strong hands-off warning by Dortmund means Aubameyang will almost certainly finish the 2015/16 season at the Signal Iduna Park.
Watzke’s public stance over Aubameyang comes after Germany legend Lothar Matthaus said on Sky Germany that English clubs will be ready to pay €100m for the in-demand striker before Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. Aubameyang fired blanks in his club’s first game after the winter break, and missed a number of presentable chances to score.
Aubameyang has been in fine goalscoring form this season and is the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 18 goals thus far. He has 27 goals in all competitions in a free scoring Dortmund side under the new regime of Thomas Tuchel this season.
With his Dortmund contract running until 2020, any chance of prising the striker away from Dortmund would likely see clubs splash crazy money. Aubameyang joined Dortmund from French outfit St Etienne in 2013 and is in the midst of his most productive campaign at Dortmund this season.
