High flying Arsenal have suffered a major set-back ahead of their trip to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League Match Day 4 encounter, as the Gunners will be without star duo – Jack Wilshere and left-back Kieran Gibbs.
Wilshere missed the weekend tie at the Emirates against Liverpool but Arsenal camp were expecting him to get fit ahead of their crunch tie against Dortmund, but as per reports from Guardian, they’ll have to encore the heroics of Saturday in their defining week of the season without the star Englishman.
Wilshere has rolled his left ankle in training on last Thursday and didn’t train on Friday and although he worked out in the gym on Saturday before the Liverpool game, but it is getting increasingly clear that he won’t travel with the squad to Germany.
The only consolation Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal camp can take is that the injury hasn’t taken place on his right foot. Fans will remember that it was his injury on the right foot that cost him 17 months absence from the game while he needed treatment on right foot against Dortmund only two weeks ago.
Also, left back Kieran Gibbs is set to miss out as well. Gibbs limped off against Liverpool with a calf strain in the 78th minute. Wenger said. “He came in on Friday and was not available. We kept him out of the training. On Saturday he had a session but inside on the bike and we will see on Monday morning how he is.”
Arsenal have an able deputy in place though and it seems like Nacho Monreal will start against Dortmund on Wednesday.
