According to reports from the reliable TMW website from Italy, young Arsenal striker Joel Campbell is set to leave the North London side and join Portuguese outfit Benfica. The report has cited Portuguese based media outlet A Bola claiming that Benfica representatives are set to fly to London soon to complete the transfer.
The Costa Rican had a great loan spell at Olympiacos last season scoring 8 goals in 32 appearances. With some dazzling performance in World Cup too for his national side. he was tipped to break into the Arsenal team this season. However chances have come hard to come by despite Olivier Giroud being injured for a long time and Danny Welbeck being bought on the transfer deadline day in the summer.
Thus a loan move would set Campbell who is desperate to get game time on the pitch rather than warm the sidelines at the Emirates. Given his tender age, Campbell should focus to play regularly, something which is not guaranteed at Arsenal. The 22 year old had has featured in 146 minutes this season in 7 appearances.
There have been reports that Galatasaray and Real Sociedad are also interested to take the player on loan but the credibility of such sources aren’t yet verified. As Campbell looks set to leave England for now, we shall keep you updated on the developing story. Stay tuned…
