Lukas Podolski has revealed he is happy at Arsenal and has no plans of making a move away from the Emirates in the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old joined the North London club in 2012 and the forward claims the decision to sign for the Gunners was the right choice. During the 2013-14 campaign, the former Bayern Munich man scored eight goals and had two assists to his name from 20 league appearances.
Podolski was out of action in the middle of the season due to injury. He believes if not for his injury, the German international would have increased his goal count.
“As things stand today, I am an Arsenal player [and tomorrow] it won’t change. Going to London was the right step,” Podolski said.
“I had the chance to go to a big club and to play in the strongest league in the world. I am happy in the city, in the league, in the club. Those two years have been outstanding for me.”
“If my bad injury hadn’t stopped me for almost five months it would have been a better season again.”
“Nevertheless I am satisfied. In the end, I was a regular starter, scored eight goals and had four assists in the league. It’s nothing to sneeze at,” he added.
Arsenal has the services of Olivier Giroud, Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bendtner as the first choice strikers at the Emirates. However, the Denmark international’s future with the Gunners is set to end as he will leave his current employers for nothing in the summer transfer window.
With Podolski admitting that he will be at the North London side beyond this summer, it would be a great boost for Arsenal.
The German forward was a part of Arsene Wenger’s side which went on to defeat Hull City in the FA Cup final earlier this month. Their recent success saw Arsenal end their nine-year long trophy drought.
Podolski admitted the FA Cup success is special as it brought silverware to the Emirates after close to a decade.
“I am not someone that reduces himself only to the titles he won. Lukas Podolski doesn’t change just because he won a title but, of course, a title is something awesome – even more if it’s in a foreign country and in such an important competition,” the 28-year-old explained.
“Especially from the aspect that Arsenal hadn’t won anything for nine years, this success was something special.”
