Arsenal are closing in on signing Petr Cech from Chelsea. The Czech goal keeper, who spent nearly a decade at Chelsea, will be a massive signing for the Gunners. Jose Mourinho was initially reluctant to sell his star player to a rival club, but Chelsea allowed Cech to fulfil his desire to stay in London, as a tribute to his immense contribution for the West London club.
Cech would be the first of many signings to come at the Emirates this summer. Now that the goal keeping conundrum is sorted, Arsenal will turn their attention towards signing a top class striker and a reliable central midfielder.
According to reports from German tabloid Bild, Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a top priority target for Arsenal.
Aubameyang was the leading scorer for Dortmund last season, scoring 25 goals for the Bundesliga club. Bild claims that Arsenal are currently preparing a mammoth €40m bid for the Dortmund attacker.
The 26-year-old Gabon international joined Dortmund in 2013 for a reported fee of €13m from French club St Etienne. He spent two brilliant seasons at Dortmund, managing over 40 goals during this period, as a result his market price has gone up.
Aubameyang first caught Arsenal’s attention during Dortmund’s Champions League tie with the Gunners, where he scored in Dortmund’s 2-0 win last September.
Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested, but it seems like Arsenal are keen to take an early advantage here.
Aubameyang will be an excellent signing for the Gunners, but Dortmund will try their best to resist all temptations thrown at them. Chelsea have an avalanche of attacking forwards in their ranks while Manchester City have other targets, which give Arsenal an upper hand in the race to sign the Dortmund forward.
