FC Porto v Arsenal
UEFA Champions League
Estadio de Dragao – Porto, Portugal
19:45 GMT – 17 Feb 2010
FC Porto looks to knock out one of the larger clubs in the UEFA Champions League with a first leg match against Arsenal on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Arsenal will be looking to advance to the quarterfinals and will want to get at least a draw in the first leg. The second leg will be at the Emirates a few weeks later.
Porto v Arsenal Preview
FC Porto are one of the smaller clubs remaining but Arsenal cannot underrate the Portuguese side. Porto were second in their group and only lost to Chelsea (two 0-1 matches). They reached the quarterfinals last season and gave Manchester United all the could handled (a free kick goal from Cristiano Ronaldo saved the Red Devils) so they can play with the top teams.
Arsenal have been in contention for several trophies in recent years but unable to win any of those. They have a deeper and more talented roster than Porto but will likely be needing only a draw in the first leg. The Gunners have struggled against Chelsea and Man United in the Premier League this season. Injuries will play a role in the match as Andrei Arshavin will be unavailable for the trip to Porto.
Porto are more than capable of a win and Arsenal will not have their strongest team available. This combination gives the edge to Porto but you can never count out Arsenal. Despite missing some key players, they still have a deep roster of very talented players. While Arsenal are capable of a win, it doesn’t seem likely in this match. Porto are a strong team at home and should get a narrow victory.
