Arsenal have secured the signature of Colombian goal keeper David Ospina for a paltry fee of £3m, but it seems, the Gunners want to add another goal keeper to their ranks, if the reports from Spain are to be believed.
Spanish newspaper El Confidencial claim that Arsenal have approached Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas formally to present him a concrete contract offer. Madrid are looking to buy a new goal keeper in the summer and hope to resolve the future of Casillas at the earliest.
Arsenal have already made it clear that Casillas can only join if he’s given the freedom to move by his parent club. It’s a non-negotiable condition for Casillas to be a part of the new project. The London club knows that the player’s wages would go up to €9m, a more than considerable amount and because of that they don’t have to pay a transfer fee.
Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti used Casillas mainly in cup games last season while the 33-year-old could find his chances more limited next season, should a new goal keeper arrive. El Confidential already explained few days ago that Casillas, if he finally leaves the club he represented all his life, expects to be released for free so he can decide his own future.
Will Arsenal go for him as they are already close to officially signing Ospina, who impressed heavily in the World Cup. Share your reactions below…
