What a difference a few weeks can make. Marseille’s stunning start to the French Ligue 1 season is all falling apart. The club President Vincent Labrune along with three men were arrested this week as part of an investigation of French striker André-Pierre Gignac’s transfer to the club in 2010. An operation has also been launched against suspected match-fixing in the second division.
The legal row has now laid speculations over Gignac’s future at Marseille beyond the summer. Italian media daily Gazzetta Dello Sport have reported that the player is set for a transfer move as hi contract ends with Marseille in the summer. It is believed that Inter Milan have joined the race for the Frenchman’s services while we had also reported earlier that he is also a Arsenal and Liverpool target.
Gignac has been in superb form this season having hit the back of the net 10 times in 13 league appearances. The Frenchman though is not willing to sign a new deal but he will be not short on potential suitors in the summer. Gignac however will ask for a wage packet of around €3m per year plus added bonuses.
Early reports claim new Inter manager Roberto Mancini is a huge admirer of the player and is eager to bring him at the Nerazzurri. Gignac’s agent Christopher Hutteau has also hinted that his client could join any big Premier League club. “He is a striker with a relatively atypical profile, responsive to the physical challenge, the archetypal player who can succeed in a big club. He can play in England, Arsenal or Liverpool, no problem. For me, it is (his real value) between 12 and 15 million euros.”
