Recent reports suggest that Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal could be on his way back to Spain.
Athletic Bilbao are set to offer a €8m package for the Arsenal left back, who is keen to return home. The Spanish outfit offered a similar deal last term, which was blocked by Arsene Wenger. However the Frenchman is willing to let Monreal leave this summer.
As a replacement for Monreal, Arsenal have been linked to Wolfsburg left back, Ricardo Rodriguez. The Swiss international has been in breathtaking form the the German outfit as well as his country.
Following his outstanding performances in the World Cup, Rodriguez has been courted by several clubs. However, the Swiss left back chose to stay in the Bundesliga for one more season.
However it is believed that the coveted left back could well be on his way to the Premier League this summer.
Should Arsenal decide to sign the defender, Wenger will have to pay his release clause of €30 million.
It might look like a lot of money initially, but Rodriguez is one of the few world class left backs in world football and is worth his weight in gold. A strong defender with equally good offensive skillset makes him the ideal wing back for any side in world football.
Furthermore, Rodriguez is still a young player who is far from his peak at the moment. Under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger, he will continue to develop and get better.
Whether the interest is genuine, remains to be seem. But if Arsenal were to sign a left back, they won’t find one better than Ricardo Rodriguez.
