Calum Chambers

The FA confirmed today that Arsenal Football Club has been fined £60,000 after being found guilty of an agent regulation breach in transferring Calum Chambers to the Emirates in 2014.

Although the young English defender moved to the north London club last summer, the Football Association (FA) have only just laid charges to both the football club and Chamber’s agent Alan Middleton.

Mr. Middleton was further charged £30,000 and received a three-month suspension from any agency/intermediary activities.

The FA released a statement on their website regarding the reasoning and results of the case against Arsenal and Middleton.

The statement on the FA’s official website read, “Arsenal has been fined £60,000 and warned as to their future conduct after breaching The FA’s Football Agent Regulations. The charge was in relation to the transfer of Calum Chambers from Southampton to Arsenal on 26 July 2014.

“Authorised agent Alan Middleton has also been warned as to his future conduct and sanctioned for breaching The FA’s Football Agent Regulations in relation to the same matter.

“Mr Middleton has been fined £30,000 and suspended from all agency/intermediary activity for a period of three months.

“This suspension shall be suspended in its entirety for 18 months from 23 October 2015 and will not take effect unless he commits an offence contrary to the agents regulations or The FA’s regulations on working with intermediaries during this time.”

This news comes as Arsenal were left red-faced after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup. Following such a successful week last week, Arsenal boss Arsene Wegner has received quite the reality check.

Arsenal will have their next chance to get back on track this weekend as they face a tricky Swansea City side away.
