Chelsea manager Antonio Conte expressed his delight after his team’s 2-0 win over Southampton yesterday.

The Blues are just one point behind Arsenal, Liverpool, and City now.

Conte praised his players for their performance against the Saints and revealed that three players, in particular, have made him very happy with their commitment, desire and work ethic.

When the Italian arrived at Chelsea during the summer, he stressed the importance of work rate and how it is necessary for players to contribute defensively as well as offensively in his system.

Speaking to the Chelsea website after yesterday’s match, Conte said:

When you see Eden and Diego, and Pedro, working very hard during the game, you are happy. They are strikers and usually it’s a bit difficult for the strikers to work for the team, but their commitment and work-rate is fantastic.

Chelsea have now won four Premier League games in a row and have kept a clean sheet in all four of them. Conte’s side are clearly reaping the rewards of their hard work on and off the ball. Organisation and work rate have made them hard to beat in the recent weeks.

If Chelsea want to challenge for the title this season, Conte’s high work rate philosophy could prove to be vital.
