Alexis Sanchez is close to signing a new contract for Arsenal. According to reports from The Guardian, the Chilean forward is “set to re-sign on the dotted line” and will put an end to any speculation of a summer exit.
Sanchez joined Arsenal some over 18 months ago from Barcelona for a reported fee of £35m. He became an instant hit for the Gunners, and has established himself as one of the key players for the side, scoring 35 goals in 76 games for the north London club.
Arsenal are one of the contenders to win the Premier League this season, and Sanchez is likely to play a vital role for his side. It is no coincidence that the results tailed off for the Gunners around Sanchez’s recent six-week injury layoff. However, he is back to full fitness, and Arsenal will be hoping to put up a strong performance from now till the end of the season.
Sanchez’s future has come under intense speculation recently, with reports linking him to a move to either Manchester City or Manchester United in the summer.
Last month, reports in Spain suggested that the Chilean winger would consider a move away from Arsenal, should he receive a good offer at the end of the season.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for him, and it was claimed that Louis van Gaal is an admirer of the Arsenal star and has personally spoken to him about his willingness to bring him to Old Trafford.
Sanchez is likely to sign a five-year-contract worth more than £51m. The new deal will see an increment in wages, which could bump from £130k-per-week to a figure closer to the £180k-per-week.
