Bayern Munich star David Alaba dreamt of playing for Arsenal during his younger days.
Alaba is arguably the best left back in Europe right now and during his time with Austria Wien the 23-year-old wanted to play for Arsenal with his idol Patrick Vieira.
Times have changed now and a player of Alaba’s stature will not be easy to sign for Arsenal. He has a contract until 2021 with the German champions and is unlikely to force a move away because of his love for the London club.
Journalist Andreas Heidenreich, from Wien, spoke about Alaba with France Football and shared the story about his eventual move to Bayern Munich.
He said: “David was so good that Austria (Wien) couldn’t keep him. Heiko Vogel, Bayern’s U14 manager, spotted him during a tournament in Bremen. He was straight away seduced by his will and charisma on the pitch.”
“He was the best in his team with (Christoph) Knasmüllner. However, David will say no twice to Bayern Munich, a team he didn’t like. He preferred Arsenal, where his idol, Patrick Vieira, played.”
In other news, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of AZ Alkmaar forward Myron Boadu.
The 15-year-old is one of the most highly rated Dutch talents right now and Arsenal are close to sealing the deal for him. Dutch giants Ajax will rival the Gunners for his signature.
Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Boadu when he turns 16 later this season. The young forward has been scouted extensively for two years by the Gunners.
