Former Barcelona player Pedro joined Chelsea yesterday and his agent has revealed why Manchester United failed to land the Spanish international.
Pedro has been linked with a move to Manchester United all summer, but the Barcelona forward completed a 22 million pound move to Chelsea yesterday.
Despite weeks of negotiations, United failed to complete the deal as Jose Mourinho swooped in late to hijack the move.
According to the player’s agent Antonio Sanz, United were too slow in their negotiations and Chelsea acted quickly to secure his client’s services.
“Maybe Manchester United fell asleep,” Sanz told Radio Club Tenerife. “The negotiation with Chelsea was like a lightning bolt.
“It is common knowledge that United were in the bidding for Pedro, but Chelsea were faster and within 24 hours reached an agreement with the club. It was a whirlwind.”
Sanz also claimed that Chelsea have signed a fantastic player in Pedro and the Spaniard will be one of the best players in the league this season.
“Pedro is going to have a very good year and is going to be one of the sensations of the Premier League,” he said.
Manchester United have missed out on the likes of Otamendi and Pedro in a space of few days to title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.
Although United are not finished in the market, the Red Devils faithful will be worried as there are very few quality players (if any) left to sign.
Furthermore, United could lose David De Gea towards the end of the window as Real Madrid prepare to make a final offer.
