Gonzalo Higuaín is happy at Napoli and is not looking to leave the Serie A club in order to make a switch to the Premier League, according to his agent.
The Argentine international left 10-times European champions Real Madrid and joined Napoli last summer. In his debut season, he was Napoli’s top scorer during the previous campaign.
Higuaín’s form has seen him being a transfer target for top flight English clubs. According to the reports, both Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on adding the former Real striker to their squad.
The 26-year-old’s agent and brother Nicolas Higuaín has revealed that the striker is happy with his current employers. However, he revealed that he did contact Arsenal before joining Napoli.
“Arsenal and Liverpool on Higuain ? Gonzalo has a contract for five seasons with Napoli . But I have to say that no representative of the two clubs have contacted me. Just before he arrived in Naples I had contact with Arsenal,” Nicolas told Radio CRC.
Nicolas had earlier stressed that his client is happy at Naples and has no intention of leaving the Italian club, despite Napoli’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.
“I have read and heard different things about my brother, but none of these things correspond to reality. People have spoken of the disappointment of not qualifying for the Champions League [group stage], and that this has caused resentment from Gonzalo,” the striker’s agent told Calciomercato.
“Nothing could be further from the truth. When I speak to my brother he is calm, and happy to wear the shirt of Napoli. His future is still with the Partenopei.”
Gonzalo had a very bad start to the season as he went without scoring before Napoli’s last fixture. However, the South American striker showed that he should not be underestimated as he scored a hat-trick during his side’s latest clash against Verona.
It should be seen if a chance to play in the Premier League could tempt him to leave Napoli in the future. However, with his agent’s comments it looks like Gonzalo is happy in Italy.
