Arsenal target playing fire with the club, January transfer imminent

Adrien Rabiot is all set to leave Paris Saint Germain in the January transfer window. The 19-year-old midfielder has been banished to the reserves, as Laurent Blanc is unwilling to provide him a single minute of first team football this season ahead of his expected departure in January.

The French midfielder has less than a year left on his contract and has vehemently refused to sign an extension to his current deal. It has reached a stage where PSG have stopped bothering about him, as they just want to sell at the earliest.

Rabiot wanted assurances about playing time at PSG despite managing 25 Ligue 1 starts last season, more than many of his senior team mates in the squad, but PSG have refused to bow down to his demands. Many feel that Rabiot is a victim of bad advice from his mother, Veronique, who often complained about his son’s current situation at the club.

“Rabiot and his team played with fire with the club. For the first time, the club decided to block the player and not bother anymore. All the fans are behind the club too; it’s sad for the player but a good decision by the club,” a source close to the club told French radio station RMC

I think by sending him to the reserve, the club have set a good example. No matter how you promising you’re, no player should be bigger than the club. PSG are a global brand now and they should set right examples for other French clubs to follow.

Arsenal and Roma are thought to be the interested clubs for his signature. Roma boast a strong midfield with players like Nainggolan, Pjanic, De Rossi, and Strootman; I find it hard how Rabiot will get regular game time there as well.

A move to the Emirates on the other hand seems a better option. Arsene Wenger has a penchant for dealing with raw young talents, while Arsenal are in need of a good defensive midfielder at the same time, so Rabiot fits all the bill here.

PSG will be definitely looking to sell him to the highest bidder and would be asking for a minimum fee of around €10m. For a player of his talent, that should be the minimum price any club must pay, but considering his contract situation, when he could be available for free in few months’ time, will Arsenal be willing to pay that amount for him?
