Central midfield is definitely one of the areas where Manchester United need to invest heavily in the January transfer window. However, there are other areas of the squad too that needs proper consideration at the moment, especially the wing position.
Probably in the entire United Kingdom, Manchester United are the only club who have given so much emphasis on wing play. As a result of which several great wingers have come out from this iconic club – Best, Beckham, Ronaldo, Giggs et al.
This season, wing-play has been a huge disappoint, to say the least. Apart from young Adnan Januzaj, none other wingers have made huge impacts. Players like Nani, Young, kagawa, Valencia (to some extent) and Zaha (who didn’t get chance even) have fared below far. Possibly, this has prompted David Moyes to search for another young winger in the transfer market.
According to reports from The Mirror, Manchester United are plotting a move to sign the highly rated Borussia Monchengladbach winger Patrick Herrmann, who is also a target of Arsenal.
Back in October, talksport reported that Arsene Wenger has been keeping a close tab on the development of the 22-year-old. He has represented Germany at the European Under-21 Championships in June, where his impressive performances have caught the eye of national team manager, but has yet to make his senior debut.
This season, he has already scored 3 goals and bagged 5 assists already. However, his overall contribution to the game is pretty impressive. He is a terrific dribbler (2.4 dribbles per match) while has an eye for key passes (1.5 per game).
He has a contract till 2016 and could cost around £13m but United are looking to lodge a formal bid in around £8.5m to lure the youngster.
Should Manchester United sign another winger in January?
