Manchester United are still looking to add one or two quality players in the summer and have stepped up the chase in signing Lucas Biglia from Lazio.
According to reports from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United have recently lodged a €25m bid for the Argentine midfielder, but it was immediately rejected.
Lazio, first of all, aren’t interested in selling him, but in case they do so, they would be willing to sell for €40m. Lazio have offered Biglia an extension, problem is they only offer him €2m/year while United would be willing to pay €3.5m/year.
Gazzetta reports that Real Madrid and Monaco are also reportedly interested in Biglia and are ready to launch a formal offer for the Argentine.
Biglia has been made Lazio’s skipper for the 2015-16 season, but he has hinted that his future could lie away from the Stadio Olimpico.
The Argentine midfielder joined the Biancocelesti in 2013 from Anderlecht and has established himself as one of the key players for the club.
“Will I definitely stay now that I have the armband? I don’t know,” the midfielder told reporters on Friday, as reported by Goal.
“The truth is that it doesn’t depend on me. For now, though, I’m thinking only of the game tomorrow.
“But the captaincy represents a reward for me and I’m proud of it.
“I will now have more responsibility on the field but I will not change my style of play!”
Manchester United are off to a winning start in the Premier League, after registering a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season.
United boss has hinted that there could be one or two more additions before the transfer window slams shut. At the same time, the club is under pressure to deal with the David de Gea situation; the goal keeper, who is a reported target of Real Madrid, was dropped on Saturday’s opening match against Spurs.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for another Argentine star Nicolas Gaitan, who as per Portugal press has had agreed personal terms with United, but it seems United have shifted their focus to the other Argentine instead.
Lazio will meet the player’s agent to discuss his future within the next few days. The club will be looking to reach an agreement for Biglia, but if the Argentine still refuses to sign a new deal, he could off to Manchester United or Real Madrid.
