According to Italian paper Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United are plotting a summer move for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine has been in stunning form this season despite some poor performances recently, has hit the back of the net 27 times in 57 appearances.
Higuain though has a €60m price tag and has also been linked with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid. Napoli manager Rafa Benitez has already announced that he will leave Napoli and the Spaniard is expected to take over the managerial helm at at Real Madrid.
Benitez’s departure could also see Higuain and other players leave for greener pastures. Napoli currently lie fourth in the Serie A standings and must beat Lazio on Sunday night to qualify for a Champions League playoff place for next season. Should the Partenopei fail to achieve their target, Higuain could be heading towards the exit from the club.
With Radamel Falaco’s loan spell coming to an and Javier Hernandez set to be sold after returning from his loan spell at Real Madrid, United are in the market for a quality striker who can help them mount a Premier League title challenge for the coming season. Robin Van Persie too has struggled with niggling injuries this season and has scored just 10 goals in 37 appearances.
Thus Louis Van Gaal will look for a striker who can lead the line and Higuain fits the bill perfectly for the Red Devils. Napoli though are expected to play hardball with United should the latter show an interest on the striker.
