Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has urged Brendan Rodgers to sign Arsenal striker target Loic Remy in the summer transfer window.
The France international spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Newcastle United from Queens Park Rangers. During his time at the Tyneside club, the 27-year-old amused 14 goals and registered three assists from 26 league appearances.
Remy’s form with the Magpies has seen him attract interest from top Premier League clubs. The Independent report claims the Frenchman has been a transfer target for the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, while Liverpool were also considering an option in signing him.
Lawrenson, the former Liverpool defender wants Remy to be at Anfield for the upcoming campaign.
“There have been a few reports linking Loic Remy with a move to Liverpool recently. And personally, I would take him all day long. He can play up through the middle on his own and he can play on the left as well,” Lawrenson wrote in his column in the Liverpool Echo.
“He is clearly very adaptable and can still score goals from any position. This will be his third season in the Premier League so language and communication with team mates won’t be an issue.”
“Remy absolutely understands the commitment and dedication needed to be successful in this league. But I would just take him anyway because he is such a good player. When you look at today’s inflated prices he will come relatively cheap.”
“There would be no danger in signing him for me. When you consider that next year will be so much more difficult for Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge to get as many goals as they have done this season.”
“He would provide a perfect option. His versatility doesn’t provide Brendan Rodgers with too much of a headache. You could play him in a three with out on the left so I don’t think that will be an issue.”
“You cannot have enough top class players, especially with the extra games there will be next term,” Liverpool favourite concluded.
Liverpool have the services of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez as the first choice strikers in the squad. However, the Uruguayan has been linked with a move away from Anfield as the Champions League winners Real Madrid along with their league rivals Barcelona are interested in signing him.
Should the former Ajax star leave Liverpool this summer, Remy could take Suarez’s place in the Reds’ squad.
