For the past couple of months, Liverpool had been linked with a move for former Barcelona goal keeper Victor Valdes.
First choice goal keeper Simon Mignolet has cut a frustrating figure this season (did put up a good performance against QPR though) and many football pundits feel that the Belgian is the weak link in the Liverpool squad.
Valdes, who is a free agent, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported few weeks back that the former Barcelona star is concentrating on regaining his fitness so that he can pass the medical and join the Anfield club.
Ahead of Liverpool’s mouth watering Champions League tie with Real Madrid, Rodgers gave an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, where he hinted that Liverpool are not looking to sign Valdes, or any other Spanish players. Although Rodgers didn’t mention any name, but when asked if he would add any Spanish player in the next few months, he said “No.”
If Rodgers’ reply is taken as a honest response, it seems like Liverpool’s interest in Valdes probably have gone cold or the club might be looking for other options. It could be like Liverpool were not satisfied with his fitness and therefore they might have dropped the interest in the Spaniard.
