Arsenal and Manchester United could suffer a huge set back, as agent of Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria is trying to conclude a business with Italian giants Juventus.
Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reports that Argentine winger Di Maria is still unsure about what future holds for him in the next season. His preference is to renew contract with Real Madrid, but what looked like an foregone conclusion, has been in stand-by since January.
Real Madrid have shown staunch reluctance to accept the Argentine’s demands, and now a move to Juventus might be on the cards. Jorge Mendes, who holds a great relationship with Jose Mourinho, met with Juventus last Thursday and the Italian club are willing to offer Di Maria €5-6 million a year, an amount Real Madrid have refused to reach.
They also told Mendes that they’re willing to pay €45m to Real Madrid to secure the signing of a player, who was great in key moments this season, especially in the Champions League final in Lisbon.
Di Maria is a player Carlo Ancelotti appreciates a lot, but as he has always done, he has left his future in the hands of the club and the president.
Arsenal were thought to be interested in him for quite some time now. Spanish newspaper Marca reported last month that Gunners are plotting to lure him in the summer and preparing a €40m bid to secure his services.
English giants Manchester United are also thought be in the race for Di Maria, with The Metro reporting the Red Devils are preparing a €25m move for the sensational winger.
So, could there be another twist in the tale? Should Arsenal or Manchester United move quickly before it’s too late? Is Mendes putting pressure on Madrid to give Di Maria an improved contract?
