Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has laid a hands-off warning to Chelsea by claiming that Paul Pogba will cost more than €100m in the future. The 22 year old Frenchman who was linked with Chelsea and Manchester Cuty throughout the summer stayed put at the Italian Champions and if he were to move away from Turin in the near future, potential suitors would have to pay a world record fee to the Bianconeri to secure his services.
As reported by the BBC and the Daily Mail, Marotta told a news conference, “As we want to win, we have decided to keep hold of a player as important as Pogba, although we have had offers. In the future he could be worth more than €100m.”
Pogba who left on a free transfer from Manchester United joined Juventus in 2012. The Frenchman has since then been a key figure for the Old Lady who have won the Serie A in each of the last four seasons. Barcelona are also believed to be interested in the player but their transfer ban means they can’t sign a player until January 2016.
Juevntus have endured a poor start in the Serie A, losing both of their opening games to Udinese and Roma respectively and Marotta admitted it had been difficult to replace the trio of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez, who all left in the summer.
The Turin side had earlier signed Paulo Dybala, Sami Khedira and Mario Mandzukic in the summer but failed to secured the services of Julian Draxler from Schalke on deadline day. The German midfielder joined Wolfsburg for a reported £25.5m deal and is expected to fill the void that had resulted with Kevin De Bruyne’s move to Manchester City.
Marotta was visibly disappointed at not having signed Draxler, “There has been a difficult dialogue with Schalke, who are a mysterious club. They made a disproportionate request (for Draxler), €36m (£26.5m) is an exaggeration and there was also the lack of interest from the player. I’m disappointed at the lack of negotiation, not because it did not go through.”
