Cardiff sent one of their brightest talents to London in the summer when the Bluebirds sold Aaron Ramsey to Arsenal, and another of their top players could be on his way to London in January, as Fulham could make a January move for midfielder/left winger Joe Ledley.
The 21-year old has been a regular for Cardiff since the 2004/05 season, and he has 24 caps for the Welsh national team. Stoke City were in for Ledley in the summer, and the Potters made concrete offers of £5m and £6m for the Welsh international, but Cardiff were uninterested in allowing him to leave.
They would likely be a little reluctant to let him go in January, given that they’re in a fight for a Premier League promotion playoff place, but Ledley is out of contract in the summer, and that could see the club given in and sell another one of their prized assets. If the right offer comes in, it’d be hard for Cardiff to turn it down this time around in favor of gambling on contract negotiations to go in their favor.
Frankly, it’d be an impressive signing for Fulham if they could get him, but as they showed by their summer spending, an offer of £6m and above isn’t out of their reach by any means. However, the Cottagers could face competition from Arsenal, where he could reunite with Ramsey, who’s already making an impact for the Gunners.
Arsenal could have an edge thanks to the Ramsey connections, and the Gunners do need midfield depth, but Fulham could offer him more immediate regular starts, which could see the balance swing in their direction. Whatever the case, we should be seeing Ledley in the Premier League before too long.
