Chelsea are keen to bring Barcelona’s highly talented right-back, Martin Montoya, who is also a reported target of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Montoya has struggled to secure regular starting berth at Camp Nou, due to the continous presence of evergreen Brazilian, Dani Alves. He has managed only 25 La Liga outings for the Blaugrana since making his debut in 2011.
The 22-year-old, who made his debut under ex-manager Pep Guardiola, will be a free agent after the end of the current campaign.
The player’s agent, Jose Maria Orobitg, said: “For the moment he is under contract with FC Barcelona until the end of the season.
“We have talked but there is no certainty that Martin Montoya would hold down a first-team spot, because right now Daniel Alves closes the door.”
It is understood that Chelsea are keeping a close tab on the youngster and could make a move for him either in the January transfer window or after the end of the season.
Chelsea already have one Spanish right-back in Cesar Azpilicueta in their ranks but the former Marseille star has only manager two sub appearance so far in the league. The 24-year-old, who made a bright impact last season, has become out-of-favour under new manager Jose Mourinho. And unless, his situation improves, it does not seem like he will enjoy a long term future at Stamford Bridge.
