According to the latest reports from ‘talkSport‘, Arsenal are preparing a move for Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, and have contacted the Serbian’s agent for talks.
The Gunners, who rumoured to be looking to strengthen in this January transfer window, have reportedly made the first move for the Serbian destroyer ahead of Premier League rivals Chelsea and Man Utd.
Matic has blossomed in Portugal since his move back in 2011 from Chelsea, having been part of the deal that took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old is now one of the most highly sought after midfielders in the world game.
The Blues have been strongly linked with a move for their former player, but it was David Moyes’ United who seemed to be in pole position, having reportedly watched the player in action at the Estádio da Luz – that is until this latest development.
Arsene Wenger has been predictably cagey over his side’s potential movements in this transfer market, with the Gunners already linked with a host of star names.
Matic’s reported £20-£25m price-tag may be a little much for the Frenchman however, considering that the Gunners are desperately in need of reinforcements up front, rather than in central midfield.
What do you think? Should Arsenal go for Matic? Let me know in the comments below…
