Arsenal are on the verge of securing their first signing in the January transfer window, after Arsene Wenger confirmed that Krystian Bielik has joined from Legia Warsaw.
Legia demanded a total package of £2.4m but Wenger said the deal was closed within £2m, though as per David Hytner of The Guardian, the Arsenal boss had declined to say the exact amount.
Wenger also revealed that the youngster will be deployed straight into the first team squad and that he is worth a gamble.
“Yes, he will go into the first-team squad,” Wenger said. “He’s a defensive midfielder, 6ft 2in [tall], he has a good energy level and technical level. It’s a gamble but, on what we saw, it’s worth to take the gamble. It’s an awful lot of money for a player if he doesn’t succeed. If he does succeed, then it’s cheap.”
Verdict: Bielik is a highly talented youngster no doubt, but the general feeling goes amongst the supporter is, he is the one for future. Wenger still may need an established name like William Carvalho or Moussa Sissoko to bolster his midfield.
We don’t know yet whether Wenger will sign a defensive midfielder or not, but one thing is for sure, the Frenchman is definitely looking to sign a defender. When Wenger was asked whether he has any interest in signing Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, he said:
“He’s not a defender,” Wenger said. “At the moment, we are more looking for the defensive department.”
Verdict: Well, that doesn’t mean he will never sign Gundogan if opportunity arises, but it is pretty clear from that speech, right now Arsenal are not looking to sign him. It is as clear as saying it directly – No, we don’t need him now.

Manchester United’s winger/attacking midfielder/forward Adnan Januzaj is not having a great time under Louis van Gaal. The Belgian winger has struggled to get regular games, with many feel he is not suited to Van Gaal’s 3-5-2 system.
Probably it is good for him to go out elsewhere on loan, with several reports suggesting that Italy and Portugal clubs could sign him. Fair enough. But the report of Manchester United offering Januzaj to Arsenal is something I cannot accept! Excuse me for that. Oh and yes Arsenal have rejected the offer. Thank you.
Joel Campbell is a perennial poster boy of Portugal newspapers. If I can remember correctly, last summer, his agent (according to Portugal reports) had tried to securing a deal for him with Benfica.
This winter the situation is bit different though; he has no shortage of admirers, and could be the focal point of a possible tug-of-war between Italy and Portugal clubs. Few days ago, he was still targeted by Milan clubs, this week old love Benfica are back to take him to the Estadio da Luz.
