Liverpool have ‘rotated’ a chunk of their squad this summer, letting several players go and bringing in reinforcements (noticeably in attack) to give Liverpool the cutting edge they have sometimes lacked in the last two seasons.
Tony, from Anfield Red (the Liverpool blog / forum), has a good round up of all the summer transfers for Liverpool so far:
Liverpool have been quite busy in the transfer market this season, letting a large number of attacking minded players go, whilst bringing in a host of new talent.
The biggest transfer story of all has been the arrival of Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid, but Rafa Benitez didnt leave it at just one striker, he also brought in Babel, Benayoun and Voronin.
A few stars for the future have also been signed, but dont expect them to have much of a run out this season other than in reserve team fixtures.
Luis Garcia returned to Spain, joining Atletico Madrid. Garcia will be sorely missed, his last game was against Arsenal in January when he went off injured. Garcia was always the man for the big occasion, and no one will forget his goals in the 2005 Champion’s leage that got us to Istanbul, or his beauty against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi.
The biggest upset was the release of Robbie Fowler. God returned to Liverpool in January 2006, but his contract was not renewed at the end of last season. He has since agreed to join Cardiff City.
