Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes that the club needs to part ways with striker Danny Ings.
The one-time England international Ings arrived at Anfield in 2015 from Burnley.
His time with the Reds has been blighted by injury and he has been unable to progress at the club.
The 26-year-old has managed just 4 goals from 25 appearances in all competitions and is unlikely to get regular game-time next season especially given that Liverpool’s attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have now established themselves as three of the most feared men in the Premier League.
Liverpool need to sell some of their players after making expensive purchases this year and bringing the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker to the club.
If there is a player whom they can afford to sell, it is Ings.
He could probably get regular game-time at a mid-table club.
While Nicol believes that Ings is capable of playing in the Premier League, he does not believe that he should be playing for a top-four club.
He said: “Danny should go. At the end of the day in my opinion, Danny’s a good Premier League player. Danny’s not a top-four striker in the Premier League in my opinion.”
