Manchester United and Belgium goal-machine Romelu Lukaku has credited his former Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba for helping him to develop into the player that he is today.
Lukaku joined the Blues as an impressive youngster back in 2011 from Anderlecht. However, he never managed to impress at Stamford Bridge.
All in all, he failed to score a goal for the Blues from 15 appearances in all competitions.
After falling down the pecking order at Chelsea, Lukaku went on to have loan spells with West Brom and Everton before joining the Toffees permanently in 2014.
During the 2016/17 season, he established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League as he scored 26 top-flight goals for the Toffees which led to a move to Manchester United that summer.
Even though Lukaku’s time at Chelsea was a failure, it allowed him to become close with the legendary Drogba who has helped him to develop his game.
While speaking about his relationship with the Ivorian, Lukaku said as per the Manchester Evening News:
“Everybody knows Didier Drogba is a bit of a big brother to me. He’s helped me from when I arrived in England, we have a very special and close relationship. He demands a lot of me because he knows i have the potential to do big things.”
